UX Designer

Why Autronica?

At Autronica, you're joining a leading innovator, manufacturer, and supplier of fire and gas safety systems worldwide. Our solutions protect lives and assets on land, at sea, and in demanding industries like petrochemical, oil, and gas. Headquartered in Trondheim, Norway's technology hotspot, we combine global presence with local expertise. Our greatest strength is our people: their expertise, creativity, and passion. Join us and make a difference.

About the role

Do you want to be part of our Trondheim-based R&D team working toward a safer future? At Autronica, our mission is to eliminate loss of life, injuries, and damage caused by fire and gas. We are expanding and creating a brand-new cross functional team—giving you the opportunity to be part of something fresh, with a clear purpose from day one.

We are looking for a talented UX Designer to help us craft clear and intuitive user experiences. In this role, you will work across the full UX process, from understanding user needs and real-world workflows to defining structure and interaction patterns that support accurate decision-making under pressure. You will collaborate closely with product managers, developers, and domain experts to ensure your designs are both user-centered and technically feasible.

While coding is not expected, awareness of how design decisions interact with technologies such as Qt, Flutter, or web-based systems will help in daily collaboration. Our products combine legacy and modern components on a Linux-based modular architecture. You will contribute both to ongoing system improvements and to the design of new platforms currently under development.

Your Responsibilities

  • Lead and contribute to the full UX process, from discovery to delivery.
  • Collaborate with product managers and domain experts to understand complex workflows and translate them into clear user experiences.
  • Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups based on user needs and system constraints.
  • Conduct user research and usability testing, and iterate based on findings.
  • Establish and maintain design systems and reusable components.
  • Work closely with developers to ensure designs are realistic, testable, and implemented correctly.
  • Design with accessibility, clarity, and ease of use in mind, even under pressure.
  • Contribute to both legacy system improvements and the design of new interfaces.
  • Stay current with UX tools, methods, and best practices.

Who you are

You combine creative design skills with structured thinking and empathy for users in demanding, safety-critical environments. A sharp eye for detail and a user-centered mindset allows you to turn complex workflows into intuitive, purposeful interfaces. You collaborate effectively across teams, communicate clearly, and adapt to evolving requirements while maintaining focus on usability and safety. You are self-driven, proactive, and take pride in delivering experiences that have a real impact on system reliability and critical decision-making.

Must-have qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field.
  • Experience designing digital products, ideally in complex or technical domains.
  • Portfolio demonstrating strong UX skills, including interaction design and information architecture.
  • Proficiency with design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD.
  • Experience conducting user research and usability testing.
  • Understanding of user-centered design principles and accessibility.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills when working with developers and product teams.

Nice to have

  • Awareness of technologies such as Qt, Flutter, or web frameworks.
  • Experience designing for safety-critical, regulated, or industrial systems.
  • Familiarity with Linux-based environments or API-driven systems.
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams with technical constraints.

What we offer

  • Meaningful work in a mission-driven company.
  • Competitive salary and benefits.
  • A supportive and inclusive work culture.
  • 6th week of paid vacation.
  • Free on-site car parking.
  • Flexible working hours.
  • Pension and insurance schemes.
  • Opportunities for growth through courses, events, and mentoring.

Our commitment to you

In our organization you can have an impact from day one. With us, each person has an important role, with many opportunities to define their own path. You will have skilled colleagues to spar with on challenging and rewarding projects. If you are motivated and we find you to be "a good match", we are prepared to build you up despite having not long work experience.

We consider diversity and inclusion to be decisive factors for our success. Therefore, we encourage candidates with different backgrounds, genders, and ages to apply.
