Telework Information: This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule, with up to two days of remote work and three days or more onsite, per week.

The California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) User Experience (UX) and Information Design team is currently seeking a Senior UX Designer to help define and drive the future of CalPERS UX/UI digital products and align to CalPERS mission. You identify and set strategy, envision complex systems, and inspire teams to push the boundaries of what’s possible. You possess a clear vision of the future of UX and have the courage to pursue forward-thinking design.

In this role, you will apply your passion for brand, craft, and design fidelity to guide research and design processes, mentor talented members of team, and collaborate with stakeholders to create innovative experiences across the UX team portfolio. You are a great design team leader, systems-level design thinker and visionary, with an outstanding intuition who will provide guidance for a team of UX designers and researchers. You have a sense for clean and design and are committed to creating elegantly simple user experiences from otherwise complex workflows. You also take time to understand performance side of design, and also the business aspects of the products.

Special Requirements

  1. Please describe the most complex UX and web interface design project you've completed and your role: A. What were the goals of the project? B. How did the design solution help meet these goals? C. What tools did you use? D. What were the most significant challenges encountered during the project, and how were they overcome?
  2. Describe your experience and role in gathering customer design requirements, documenting those requirements, and executing a design solution based on those requirements gathered.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

  • Direct experience in Human-Centered Design, user experience design, evaluation and analysis of website user experiences including gathering and collection of data.
  • Knowledge of principals of user-centric website design and working in an agile development cycle.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and experience working effectively with stakeholders.
  • Experience managing multiple projects, setting stakeholder expectations, working individually, and collaborating across teams.
  • Ability to present design strategy to all levels of management, including executives, peers, and external stakeholders.
