Position Overview

We are seeking a Product Designer with a strong focus on web application design to join our creative, cross-functional team. In this full-time, remote contractor role, you’ll collaborate closely with product managers, developers, analysts, and clients to design intuitive, engaging, and technically feasible digital solutions.

We value designers who approach their work with an understanding of technical and data realities, ensuring designs are as buildable as they are beautiful. Whether you’re early in your career with a strong tech/data background or a more seasoned designer with deep UI/UX expertise, this role offers the opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects and grow your skills.

Core Responsibilities

  • Design web applications for commercial, non-profit, and federal clients that are grounded in technical feasibility and data realities.
  • Create wireframes, prototypes, and mid- to high-fidelity designs in Figma.
  • Collaborate with developers, analysts, and PMs to ensure alignment between design and system capabilities.
  • Create or contribute to user personas and journey maps as needed for projects.
  • Present designs and rationale to internal teams and clients in a clear, professional manner.
  • Observe and participate in client design critiques and review sessions to refine and improve deliverables.

Additional Opportunities & Exposure

  • Participate in UX research activities (e.g., user interviews, surveys, usability testing, competitive analysis) led by other team members.
  • Join design thinking sessions and collaborative workshops as part of cross-functional teams.
  • Contribute to design systems alongside senior designers.
  • Assist with marketing-related design needs (e.g., graphics, infographics, presentation decks) as needed.
  • Participate in accessibility reviews and incorporate accessibility best practices with guidance from the team; familiarity with 508 compliance is a plus.

Qualifications

  • 1+ years of professional experience in product design, UX/UI design, or related field.
  • Proficiency in Figma for wireframing, prototyping, and high-fidelity design.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing web application or complex digital product design work.
  • Demonstrated ability to design with technical and data constraints in mind.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical teams.
  • Self-directed, able to manage multiple projects, and comfortable working in a remote consulting environment.
  • Strongly Preferred: Technical or data/BI background prior to or alongside design experience.
  • Familiarity with Jira or similar project/task management tools.

Location

This is a fully remote position with primary working hours during US Eastern Time.

Compensation

$40–$50/hour, commensurate with skills, experience, and portfolio strength.
