There are over 30M small businesses in the United States, but only a tiny fraction of them have a workplace savings program in place.  As the savings gap in the country widens, it’s imperative that every worker has access to and participates in their company’s savings program, such as a 401(k) or 403(b).  We believe that American workers should have easy access to an inexpensive, flexible, and intuitive solution to save for a brighter future.

Unfortunately, prior to Vestwell, small businesses have been neglected and underserved, with expensive, inflexible, poorly designed offerings built on old, mainframe software.  Vestwell is changing that, starting with rebuilding the core infrastructure for the modern era.  

Vestwell’s north star is to be the engine behind a $30T industry, powering all payroll-deducted workplace savings programs for small-to-midsize businesses, such as 401(k), 403(b), IRA, emergency savings accounts (ESA), health savings accounts (HSA), 529 college savings, and alike.  

Vestwell’s focus is to build the most flexible, powerful workplace savings and investment platform, delivered through the hands and minds of their financial services partners with the help of payroll provider partners. The team at Vestwell makes the hard stuff look easy, by combining the expertise of financial advice with the sophistication of a technology provider.

As a result, workplace providers are able to bestow the advice and solution employers and employees have been asking for, while growing and scaling along the way. Employers get a cost-effective solution designed for their needs without all the headaches, and employees get a user-friendly portal that helps them achieve their long-term saving goals.

Vestwell’s mission is to build a unified workplace savings platform to deliver the elevated experience that every employee deserves, while closing the savings gap.

Our Product and Engineering teams are each hiring interns to participate in a 10-week intensive summer internship program from June 3 - August 9. The goal of Vestwell’s internship program is to provide the insights, tools, and training to empower participants to identify and advocate for what they view as the greatest opportunities for our teams to fulfill the company’s mission.

As an intern at Vestwell, you will have the opportunity to learn about the company and all aspects of our industry and business across various departments. You will work closely with stakeholders across our extremely collaborative, cross-functional teams to conduct research, capture data, and attend meetings where you will be asked to participate in projects that will help prepare you to tackle business challenges here and in your future career.

To help set you up for success and ensure opportunities for continuous growth, you will have an assigned manager and dedicated mentor to help guide you through your internship with regularly scheduled check-ins and feedback sessions.


PRODUCT DESIGN: The Product Design team is composed of high-performing powerhouse experts who lead research and development of product design and user experience initiatives at Vestwell. This well-balanced team is a mix of industry veterans (25+ years of professional experience in design and leadership), seasoned professionals (7-15+ years professional experience) and innovative voices (2-7 years professional experience). The design team routinely delivers output of exceptional quality through interdisciplinary collaboration and agile methodologies. The team culture is focused on consistency, wellness, and professional growth, with the unofficial team mantra being “Happy, healthy, busy.”  Selling point: As a team we are able to produce consistently excellent output because our focus on team culture nurtures personal wellbeing and professional growth. An intern on our team should expect to do a lot, learn a lot, and see how the pro’s do it without missing a wink of sleep.


  • Gain experience with Design Systems: evolution, implementation, documentation, and tooling (Figma)
  • Gain experience with User Experience Testing: deciding what to test, building a test, deploying a test, interpreting results
  • Gain experience communicating and collaborating with fellow designers and interdisciplinary teams

The Necessities:

  • A final year student or recent graduate (including boot camps and or other related programs)
  • Based in the U.S. (EST preferred)
  • Eager to learn and work with various departments in the company
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in GSuite and or Microsoft Office
  • Ability to multitask
  • Cope well under pressure

The Extras:

  • Basic familiarity or proficiency with Figma or similar rapid prototyping software for Product Design
  • Introductory knowledge of Design Systems
  • Introductory knowledge of User Experience Testing


  • Compensation: $30/hr for 30 hours per week (schedule TBD between you and your manager/team)

We’re a growth stage startup with lots of exciting milestones ahead. We have adopted a remote-hybrid office policy, but all employees are welcome at our bright, comfortable office with many workspace options in midtown Manhattan so everyone has a setting that is the most productive for them.
