The Role:
The Associate Designer is an entry-level position focused on the execution of design work within a single task or project. This role is dedicated to developing foundational design skills in both UX and UI, collaborating closely with senior team members, and contributing to a positive team environment. This designer is eager to learn and grow, actively seeking mentorship and delivering on commitments with a sense of urgency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design & Prototyping
- Organise content and navigation effectively at the application and screen level (e.g., wireframe or prototype).
- Pair with more senior designers for review and to make iterative improvements to work.
- Works collaboratively with end users to sketch potential use cases, task flows, and user flows.
- Demonstrate a solid foundation in typography, layout, and visual design principles.
- Show creativity in determining how to solve a design problem or realise a design opportunity within the given constraints.
- Organise content in a useful and meaningful way to users, showing an understanding of multiple taxonomy approaches (e.g., hierarchical, faceted).
- Demonstrate an understanding of the merits of divergent thinking to explore new ideas.
- Write appropriate content with guidance from senior designers and content writers.
- Research & Strategy Support
- Assist in user research by taking notes during interview sessions.
- Provide feedback on findings and recommendations from user research.
- Assist in strategic research by providing feedback during heuristic reviews, taking notes during cognitive walkthrough sessions, or contributing to content audits.
- Take direction from senior designers regarding information visualisation needs.
- Contribute to conversations based on domain knowledge when appropriate, with potential knowledge in business, brand, marketing, or product strategy.
- Communication & Professional Development
- Communicate effectively, clearly, concisely, and in an audience-oriented way, in written and verbal form.
- Actively listen to others and ensure they are understood.
- Openly share opinions and contribute to discussions in a respectful manner.
